In the technology industry, problem solving is imperative, so make that your focus for your next team building activity. Let your IT professionals use and develop these skills in unique ways! An event where they must gather information, analyze it, and apply solutions will not only be rewarding for them. It will be great practice! For example, with our activity “Manor House Murder” participants use iPads to track down clues, put all of the solutions together and identify the killer before another team. It’s an immersive, interactive event that puts problem-solving skills to the test and creates a fun element of competition.
IT Professionals like technology and will benefit from using it during a team building event
Your IT Professionals are comfortable and familiar with technology, so don’t be afraid to use it! If they’re familiar with the way information is presented, the more they will focus on the actual information being shared. But don’t use technology in the same way! Think outside the box with activities like a high-tech hunt played on devices. Or, consider a virtual Escape Room, such as our “Crack the Code” event. Participants use iPads and must navigate their way virtually through a series of puzzles, challenges and tasks to escape a series of virtual rooms. It creates a sense of camaraderie and allows them to use skills such as communication and observation to the test.
Creativity is imperative to get ahead if you are a technology company
Therefore, encouraging and inspiring creativity during a team building event just makes good sense, as the more your people use it, the better they become at it! Events that center on building something are always a lot of fun. For example, in our “Spud Racer” event, teams build racecars out of fruit and vegetables and race them in a series of heats. It’s a hilarious event, full of good-natured competition that harkens back to pinewood derby days in scouting and people will be amazed at what they come up with!

What better way to make an impact and give back to the technological world, than to have your group participate in a STEM activity? By giving back to the fields of science, technology, engineering and math, your team would be investing in the future of their industry. Consider donating to schools, colleges or even to a specific cause like women in the technology and engineering industries. For instance, in our Give Back Game Show, teams answer questions about STEM, participate in games utilizing STEM equipment and more. At the end of the event items mentioned in the quiz and used for the games are donated to foster interest in and inspire others to join the technology field.
Networking isn’t JUST for computers – technology companies must focus on networking with one another to move the needle
Great ideas are rarely created in a vacuum. Therefore, networking with colleagues is imperative, so employees will feel comfortable with one another in order to further your company’s success. But, many in the technology industry may be introverts, so why not help them connect by hosting icebreaker games? For instance, as employees enter a social function, you could give each one a piece of a STEM toy that they must put together by finding others who have the components needed. Or, in an event like our “Just The Ticket,” guests earn raffle tickets by playing games that help them learn more about one another. For instance, in one of the games all guests stand up, but they must sit if something read out loud by the emcee applies to them. Did you ever build your own robot? Play Dungeons and Dragons? Sit down! Last players standing win raffle tickets.
